  • traurig [German] Sad.
  • Requiem [Latin] A composition to honor the deceased.
  • rondò [Italian] A form in which a principal theme (sometimes called the refrain) alternates with one or more contrasting themes, generally called episodes, but also occasionally referred to as digressions, or couplets. Possible patterns in the Classical Period include ABA, ABACA, ABABCA, etc.
  • vocalese A style or genre of jazz singing wherein lyrics are written for melodies that were originally part of an all-instrumental composition or improvisation.
  • beruhigend [German] Relaxing, melodious.
  • Rinaldi numbers A numbering system identifying compositions by Antonio Vivaldi.
  • polycoral Performance style developed in the late sixteenth century involving the use of two or more choirs that alternate with each other or sing together.
  • parody A humorous or satirical composition which exaggerates the features of some other composition.
  • cantoris [Latin] Literally, “of the cantor”. In Anglican church music, referring to the half of the choir sitting on the cantor's side of the church.
  • madrigal choir Small vocal ensemble that specializes in a cappella secular works.
  • Biamonti Catalog [Italian] A chronological catalog of Ludwig van Beethoven's compositions, compiled by Giovanni Biamonti.
  • allant [French] Going on, lively.
  • feierlich [German] Solemn.
  • affabile [Italian] Affable, pleasant.
  • Minnelied [German] A love song composed in the Minnesang tradition.
