Some random terms
- piece A term for any composition that is a complete work in itself. This could be a self-contained movement of a larger composition, such as an aria of an opera, or the entire composition.
- vocalese A style or genre of jazz singing wherein lyrics are written for melodies that were originally part of an all-instrumental composition or improvisation.
- licenza
A directive to perform a certain passage with some freedom of manner. - finale
The last movement in a composition of several movements. - dolcissimo
Very sweet, very soft. - villanelle
A French term used in the 16th century for pastoral poems or songs. The term was later revived, and applied to compositions by later composers. - tonguing In the performance of wind instruments, the technique of using the tongue to produce certain sounds and effects, and especially the technique in which notes are attacked and articulated.

“With soul”, with feeling. - seventh An interval of seven diatonic degrees, counting the first and last degree.
- acoustical instrument Any musical instrument not relying on external power for operation.
- octave Interval between two tones seven diatonic pitches apart; the upper tone vibrates twice as fast as the lower one.
- parallel keys Two keys, one major and one minor, having the same tonic.
- tenuto
