- prima volta “First time”; may refer to the first ending of a repetition.
- jazz A musical style created mainly by African-Americans in the early twentieth century that blended elements drawn from African musics with the popular and art traditions of the West.
- art music Music implying advanced structural and theoretical considerations and a written musical tradition. It is frequently used as a contrasting term to popular music and folk music.
- adagissimo An extremely slow tempo marking, slower than adagio.
- traurig Sad.
- prologue The introduction or preface to a dramatic work. The prologue usually tells the audience the background to the story about to be presented.
- backbeat A style of rhythmic accentuation that puts accents on even beats. In common time this means having accents on beats 2 and 4.
- beat A throbbing that is heard when two tones are slightly out of tune.
