Tune of the Day: The Runaway Bride
Traditional Scottish/Irish jig
This tune was originally the air to a song from the 5th volume of James Johnson's Scots Musical Museum (1797) called “The Rinaway Bride”. The song was supposedly given to one of the editors of the series, Stephen or William Clarke, by a Roxburghshire gentleman.
The present jig is the Irish version of the song's melody, taken from Francis O'Neill's celebrated collection Music of Ireland, published in Chicago in 1903.
