Soft, sweet, gentle. - register A division of the range of an instrument or singing voice. Usually registers are defined by a change in the quality of the sound between a lower range and a higher range.

A directive to turn the page quickly. - luttuoso
Mournful. - soprano
The highest female voice. - duct flute A type of flute, whose pitch is produced by an air column moving through a channel, or duct, and directed to strike a sharp edge or lip causing the air column to split and vibrate. Several types of duct flutes include recorder, flageolet, penny whistle, whistle flute and slide whistle.

Study piece that focuses on a particular technical problem. - dolente
Sorrowful. - cadence A sequence of chords that terminates a musical phrase or section.
- French model A flute with pointed French-style arms and open-hole finger keys, as distinguished from the plateau style with closed holes.
- divertimento
Instrumental composition intended for entertainment, usually in a number of movements. The term is used particularly in the second half of the 18th century. - spiritual A style of music invented by Afro-American slaves. Spirituals are generally religious songs with elements of African rhythms, Biblical texts, and American accents. Usually the text is concerned with earthly tribulations and heavenly justice and reward.
